ServingFrequently Asked Questions1. So what is a "servant team?" A servant team is a group of students who care about the other students around them, the campus, and God's world. 2. What's the purpose of "servant teams?" Well, they have two fundamental reasons for being. First, there's
stuff that needs to get done. RUF has its hands in all kinds of thing
going on on campus and with every passing year, more things crop up.
Servant teams help the ministry by seeing our influence get into more
and more areas on campus. Second, servant teams are a great way to
"give something back." Jason gets all kinds of requests from well
meaning folks who, for better or for worse, have settled on RUF as
their main source of spiritual feeding while they are in college.
Servant teams give those folks a great sense of ownership and service
so that they can feel like they have an active role in RUF's ministry
to the campus at Marshall. 3. Who can sign up for the "servant teams?" This is a good question, even though on one level, the answer is
simple...anyone can. However, at RUF we realize that there are LOTS of
opportunities to be involved in religious organizations on campus, and
the temptation always exists (with good intentions, of course) to want
to be involved in anything and everything that is going on around
campus. Therefore, we would suggest that if you are already involved
in some kind of official way in another campus ministry on campus,
perhaps you need to focus your efforts in that area and wait to be
involved with RUF. These teams are primarily for those (again...for
better or worse) who have settled on RUF as their primary source of
spiritual feeding at Marshall University. 4. How much time will it take me? Not much at all. As you can see when you look through them, the servant teams are divided in such a way that no one person is going to be burdened with anything anywhere close to an oppressive time commitment. RUF understands that your primary purpose in being at Marshall is to get an education, and we are not allowed to interfere with that all-important goal. And remember, there's a reason why we call it "teams," the idea being that the responsibilities would be delegated among a group to see that no one person is carrying the entire load. 5. What kinds of things do the servant teams do? Well, that's a great question. The best way to find out is to simply take a look around the following pages and find the kinds of things that interest you. At the bottom of each page, you'll find a form that you can easily fill out that will sign you up that team. Prayer Team 6. What if I have too much going on next semester to be involved? Should I not sign up this semester? Not if you don't feel like you have the time. RUF only asks that you give us a one semester committment to help out with these teams. If you run into an unusually busy semester, drop off and pick it back up a while later. OR switch to another team. The choice is yours. |
